This is an example of what the money you raise can provide for our patients:

  • £35 could pay for a patient’s daily meals
  • £80 could help pay for a patient’s visit to Day Care
  • £100 could pay for a counselling session for a bereaved relative
  • £200 could pay for a therapy session for a patient
  • £480 could pay for 24 hours of care on the ward for one inpatient
  • £1006 could pay for running the Hospices for one hour

Any amount you are able to raise is most gratefully received and appreciated and will help make the event a success, which will in turn help with funding of all our vital services.

This year we are introducing a donation option as an alternative to raising sponsorship. Most of our Midnight Walkers choose to fundraise for us by raising sponsorship as it is a great way to support the Hospices and gives your friends, family and colleagues the opportunity to support you in your fundraising efforts. However, we realise that for some of our walkers who take part every year, or for those that perhaps this is the 5th or 6th charity event you’re taking part in this year, raising money through sponsorship becomes more difficult. Therefore we’ve introduced the donation option so that, if you would prefer, you can make a direct donation to the Hospices to support us instead.

It’s optional whether you choose to fundraise for the Hospices by taking part in our Midnight Walk, we do not ask for minimum sponsorship, but hope that in taking a valuable place in the walk you will do your best for a very worthwhile cause. We hope you will choose to support us by fundraising for the Hospices too and help us continue to provide care for our patients and their families.

If you choose to raise sponsorship we will send you a sponsorship form in your registration pack and suggest you ask everyone you know to support you. Remind them to tick the gift aid box if they are eligible as this will increase their sponsorship by 25p per pound. You could also arrange a coffee morning or supper and ask people to donate for your hospitality.

If you choose to make a donation we will send you a donation envelope in your registration pack to return to us at your earliest convenience. Make sure you tick the gift aid box if you are eligible as this will increase your donation by 25p per pound. We will also still send you a sponsorship form in your registration pack – that way if anyone did ask to sponsor you, you have the form available.

Online fundraising

Setting up an online fundraising page at VirginMoneyGiving or MuchLoved is also very effective. This should only take a couple of minutes and is a safe way for people to donate with a credit/debit card. VirginMoneyGiving is the online fundraising platform we suggest to use, however if you are walking in memory of a loved one you may want to have a look at MuchLoved – this website offers more opportunity to remember that special someone and create a free online memorial page for them.

Get social – use Social Media to promote your event, both Facebook and Twitter have VirginMoneyGiving integration and are the ideal platforms to promote your fundraising.
